African Conference of Solidarity with the Saharawi women Final Statement The African Conference of Solidarity with the Saharawi women, was held during three days, 6,7 and 8 December, in the Wilaya of Boujadour in the Saharawi refugee camps. The conference focused on the issue of "the role of the women in the liberation movements for liberation and independence in Africa" by presenting a number of interventions and listening to some of the experiences concerning the strong presence of women in some African countries, and it studied many ideas and projects regarding the ways of promoting the future joint work. The conference was organized by the Union of Saharawi Women in coordination with National Union of Algerian women and Algerian committee for Solidarity with Saharawi People, and was attended by delegations and dignitaries from the saharawi refugee camps and occupied territories of western sahara, an important Algerian delegation and representations from Namibia, South Africa, Uganda, Benin, Cabe Verde, Burkina Faso, Guinea Bissau, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Mozambique, Ruanda and with attendance of interested personalities from Spain, Mexico and Italy. African Conference of Solidarity with the Saharawi women reflected the high level of the African women solidarity with the Saharawi women, and reaffirmed that the struggle of the Saharawi women against Moroccan occupation in the occupied zones and their resilience in the camps of pride and dignity, constitutes a continuity of the African Women march all over the continent, and embodies big principles and values that constitute in their entirety the meaning of humanity and call for solidarity, tolerance, equality, justice, and protection of the dignity of the woman and her rights. The conference called on all women militants all over the world to stand with the Saharawi Women in their struggle for freedom and independence, and called on the international social society to engage in this such solidarity actions, and support it, in the service of global peace and in solidarity with all the just causes. In this context, the conference, being held for the first time in the Saharawi Refugee Camps, draws the attention to the extraordinary situation in Western Sahara, the last colony in Africa, as its people is not yet able to practice its right on self-determination as granted by the international legality, in spite of the fact that its cause is clear and categorized as an issue of decolonization by the United Nations since 1963, as result of Moroccan intransigence and its disregard of all the international laws and resolutions. The African Women call upon the African Union and The United Nation to speed up the process of decolonizing Western Sahara by implementing the international law and accelerating the organization of a free and democratic referendum of self-determination for the Saharawi People. They urge all peace loving people to support the efforts of the international movement of solidarity with the just struggle of the Saharawi people and to advocate for its cause in all the international for a. The first conference of solidarity with the Saharawi women draws also the attention on the situation in the occupied territories of western Sahara, where Moroccan state is still committing gross violations of human rights, as confirmed by many international human rights organizations. The conference also notes with concern the ongoing plundering of the natural resources of Western Sahara by Moroccan regime, the difficult conditions in the refugee camps, and the crime against humanity represented by the wall of shame that divides the land and the people of Western Sahara. The conference, therefore, calls for the establishment of a UN mechanism to monitor human rights in the occupied Western Sahara, putting an end to the plundering of its natural resources and dismantling the wall of shame. In the end, the conference expressed its deep condolences to the family of the late leader Nelson Mandela and to the people of South Africa , all the peoples of the continent and the free world at large. Lastly, the conference chose the country of Namibia as the host of the next edition of the conference that will be held in the same period the next year, and chose that the conference will be named Nelson Mandela as a symbol of struggle and defending freedom in Africa and the entire world.
